Roberlo’s employees managed to collect a total of 600 kilos of food and more than 300 litres of milk and oil which has been donated to the Food Bank of Girona.
The way this donation was made was unusual to say the least.
This year, in addition to the traditional gifts of turron, cured meats, wine and Cava, etc. usually offered to company employees when it comes to choosing their Christmas hamper, a new option was presented; the Charity Hamper of basic foodstuffs, produced in collaboration with the Food Bank.
The hamper contained rice, legumes, sugar, canned tomatoes, canned fish, cereals and pasta, etc. and was combined with two existing options so that each worker could choose whichever they preferred.
Following this charitable gesture, we are pleased to report the large uptake of this option resulting in a large number of donations.
We should mention that the idea for the Charity Hamper came from our colleagues in the production department, who asked to be able to donate their hamper to a good cause. The company simply facilitated organisation with the Food Bank to carry out this altruistic gesture.
The Food Bank is a Private Foundation for social charitable benefit whose objective is to fight hunger and to stop excess food being thrown away. The organisation, which promotes the “Big Collection” amongst other events, takes its produce to other charitable organisations who distribute the goods directly to those most in need.
At Roberlo, we believe that apart from the work with NGOs and charitable organisations laid out in a company’s Social Corporate Responsibility plan, an initiative such as this could be adopted by many other companies who wish to encourage their employees to engage in charitable actions. It is especially relevant in these extremely difficult times when the length of the economic crisis is affecting society so deeply.
