Roberlo has sponsored the manufacture of electric car by vocational training students at the Pere Martell Institute in Tarragona, Catalonia.
The purpose of this educational program is to train students in subjects such as engineering, design, bodywork, etc. and at the same time raise their awareness of the development of more environmentally friendly and energy efficient cars.
They worked together in a multidisciplinary team with the various vocational disciplines at the centre: Vehicle Transport and Maintenance, Mechanical Manufacture, Wood and Furniture, Electronics and Graphic arts.
The project has lasted two years and consisted of the manufacture of all the car components from the engine to the bodywork. The aim was to build a self-propelled vehicle that will ultimately compete in several European races.
To prepare the students, they spent a weekend setting up the prototype at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia, they then travelled to Rotterdam to participate in the Shell Eco-Marathon race that was held from 15 to 18 May.
On return from their first experience, they started to improve the single-seater for the next test, which will take place at the next "Solar Race" event. This competition will be held in October 2014 and will take place on an urban circuit in the city of Murcia, which will see vehicles using different alternative energy sources on the streets of the capital.
